Immer das Selbe gelogen

World première July 18th 1991, Sommerszene, Salzburg (A)

"One day in 1990, Wim Vandekeybus meets a rare enigma in the port of Hamburg. The enigma is sitting on a bench, looking to the sea, wearing a brown hat. It is a child of 88 years who has passed through life as a smuggler, a singer, an actor and dancer, living from little jobs. His name is Carlo Verano, and with him Vandekeybus takes the time to sit, to listen to thousands of true stories, lies that only poetry knows how to render real. He listens, films, records the old hermit and offers him company for the final voyage. Unceasingly the dance undertakes the passage from the intime to the public (and back again). Vandekeybus delivers to the scene, with Immer das Selbe gelogen, the rebellious wit of Carlo, the wise minstrel."

Jean-Marc Adolphe in the February/March/April 1996 program of Théâtre de la Ville, Paris
